We often focus on the “what” of teaching: which materials to offer, which curriculum to buy, and how to set up the classroom. Those are important factors, but research shows that outcomes are actually more influenced by what teachers do - their behaviors and practices. We’ll reflect on 10 teacher behaviors that result in rewarding, culturally-sustaining connections and learning.

Designing for Wonder: Creating Inspiring Children’s Spaces

The spaces where children spend their days are an opportunity to inspire wonder, discovery, and excitement for learning. We’ll evaluate our current spaces for effective principles of design and create a plan for enhancing our environments. As Anita Rui Olds said, We can choose to design spaces for miracles, not minimums.”

Little Worlds of Learning: Building Key Skills through Small World Play

Have you ever noticed how children gravitate towards making models of real and imaginary worlds with tiny materials and toys? Designing little worlds promotes children’s social-emotional, language, and executive functioning abilities.  In this hands-on session, we will create our own small world playscapes as we explore the developmental skills children gain through this playful process.
