Books as Windows & Mirrors: Quality Literature to Elevate Program Diversity

Children need access to literature that authentically reflects their lives and experiences. Selecting culturally sustaining and inclusive children’s books is an essential part of ensuring children can see themselves in their environments. We will reflect on what makes a children’s book meaningful and relevant, examine award-winning books, and incorporate strategies for selecting high-quality diverse literature in our own programs.

Start Here: Talking About Race & Racism in Early Childhood

You are a critical part of how children learn about race and equality. How can you intentionally invite topics of race in your daily work? We’ll examine bias, prejudice, and racism; develop ways to affirm children's positive racial identity; and explore how to help families understand that talking about race and racism is appropriate and necessary for children.

Walking the Walk: Antiracist Practices in Early Childhood

Following an anti-bias approach in your program is important, but educators are being called to a higher standard of explicitly antiracist practices. We'll examine the construction of racial identity and how it influences our actions. We'll then develop strategies for antiracist work at the instructional, interpersonal, and administrative levels. Leave empowered and committed to implementing your plan.
